    Neal Update 2-7-12

UPDATE: Ohio State and Oklahoma are out of the running for the services of the nation's top athlete, Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral).

"Oklahoma came in too late and Ohio State isn't a good fit," Luke Neal, Davonte's father, told 247Sports.

The remaining schools on Neal's wish list include: Arizona, Notre Dame, North Carolina and Arkansas.

Neal will take an official visit to Arizona this weekend, and he is set to announce his decision Feb. 21 according to his father.

This is a huge development in the Neal recruitment, the big boys are out, but still three excellent teams left. I gotta believe AZ is in a great position especially since they came into this recruit late, and Dad indicated that Okla. came in late is is out because of their timing. As I said in another thread, this is a quality kid from a quality family, everything we need at the U. We gotta shine on this visit.

I agree here. With his caliber of skills, he seems to be looking for a program that he can personally impact and play an integral role in its rise to national relevance.

Notre Dame is a solid choice, but he would hold far more opportunity to leave a mark at UA.

I ****ing hate Norte Dame. Why it thinks its so relevant is beyond me. They have done nothing, but haul in recruit after recruit and not produce on the field. Norte Dame is not good anymore and need to get over it. The only good thing Norte Dame ever did was hire Charlie Weiss so i could count the food stains on XXXL shirt and wonder how many minutes its been since his last feeding.

They choke year in and year out. And I dont want to hear anything about there high admissions standards either and how it prevents their rebirth. Look at Stanford. Ok rant over.

    Not liking this here update:

UPDATE: A week remains before the nation's top undecided recruit, Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral), makes his announcement.

The two programs which appear to be in the lead for Neal's services are Notre Dame and Arkansas.

Arizona and North Carolina are still in the mix. According to Richard Obert of the Arizona Republic, Florida also made a late push for Neal after Stefon Diggs committed to Maryland only to be rebuffed.

There is a lingering thought Arkansas has the advantage at the moment, but that may not be the case.

"I've been told by a source close to 4-star WR/CB Davonte Neal that the last available star player 'sounds for sure' headed to NotreDame," Dion Caputi of NFLDraftUpdate.com tweeted.
This makes no sense to me at all. I think Arizona is in a better spot than ND, ND never does anything.

Saw it on AZcentral.com. Knew i should have stayed pessimistic and called everyone idiots for believing he was coming here. Instead, I drank the Kool-Aid. Oh well....

Thats why his trip (Official visit or unofficial) to U of A was never a priority and never occurred.
Ohio State was smart and decided he wasn't worth the Headache!!

ESPN rumors also had it as Rutgers or AZ for Fuller.

Look, our odds were always against us, but we made a big case near the end and he may still be seriously considering us, but we are Az football and it will probably be a while before elite recruits want to come here. I still welcome him with open arms and hope he chooses us.

I've given up on any sort of speculation. I'll believe he's going where he's going when he goes there.

I'm still optimistic. Notre Dame has tradition...from thirty years ago. Arizona is intriguing and Neal would be a star under RR's system. Less than one week...

    Today's update.

UPDATE: North Carolina has remained in the background during the Davonte Neal (Scottsdale, Ariz./Chaparral) recruiting process. Yet the Tar Heels continually remained in the picture as one of Neal's final four. North Carolina was also Neal's final official visit.

If Larry Fedora's squad is faxed a letter of intent from Neal Wednesday, his plan will be set in motion.

"North Carolina, his grandmother lives there so it is a great situation there," Luke Neal, Davonte's father, told Brian Dohn of Inside Carolina. "He has the opportunity to play there on offense and defense, and that interests him."

Neal is expected to receiving immediate playing time at each of his final choices. North Carolina may not be in the lead, but the program continues to intrigue Neal.
I'm not sure who's right, they just keep talking about his fit at each school. Catfan09 has it right. We'll know where he's going when he goes there. enjoy the next week.

ESPN rumors doesn't have sources, so I wouldn't take anything they say as gospel. However, nobody really has a good read on Neal's decision and he could go to any one of the schools on his list. Arizona is not out of it by any means though at this point.
