I'm not sure which I feel more emotional about... sad that Davonte's day couldn't be "Davonte's day" or shame for his father. This should be a good lesson to all of us. You must lead your children, but allow them to make their own decisions.

    Sad day for everyone involved.

He didn't show up. His father supposedly wanted him to attend ND, but Davonte already had the Arizona LOI ready to be mailed...

IF this is true, that is truly effed up that his father won't let him go where he wants to go. It is his life, not his father's. I definitely understand his father wanting him to attend ND, but it's not as if Davonte is choosing a criminal path in life, he is just choosing a different school and using his own reasons for doing so.

Nobody knows if this rumor is true. The FSN webcast hinted that his father was set on ND, but they may have a true family emergency (the Neal's have experienced serious situations over the past couple of weeks).

His father should play a major role in his recruitment, but shouldn't make the ultimate decision. Let's hope that everybody's ok and that Arizona gets the LOI...TODAY!

Reportedly, Luke Neal happened. Regardless of what happened, the Neal camp is getting slammed by local and national media.

At this point it doesn't really matter where he wanted to go or where his father wanted him to go. If you call a press conference at an elementary school, orchestrate 600 kids leaving class to watch your announcement, meet you, and get autographs; then you show up.

If he and his father disagreed about the school then he could have showed up and said that he just couldn't make his decision yet. He could have apologized right then and still made a great day for those kids.

The fact that he didn't even show up is an embarrassment for him. It's a failure on responsibility, respect, and being a man. It's a failure by Neal and by his father, and it was really low class.

I agree, I cannot say that if I were in that situation I'd know what to do. That being said I would have told my Dad where I was going and he would have supported me in that decision.

My dad would have damn well made sure I showed up. It seems like the "decision" is the only thing that they really cared about. The 600 kids, the press, and the school faculty that organized the auditorium obviously didn't matter to them.

Well if you made a decision about something and told your Dad and then he gets pissed at you and tells you "NO" you think you would be in the mood to go to a presser? I wouldn't be, his Dad is at fault here, I do not blame the kid. That is a tough spot for him.

Assuming that is what happened of course.

What we do know is that the elementary school still has not heard from the Neal camp. And that, makes me sick.

It doesn't matter if you're in the mood for it or not. How much work do you think went into setting up the press conference? Who do you think performed that work? Who do you think has no respect for the faculty and students at that elementary school?

It's just a good thing I am not a father of a child that goes to that school. The school, and the Neal's would not like the conversation we would be having reguarding the lack scolastic importance both just showed. Pissed would not even cover it...

Make your own choice's young Mr. Neal!

That being said, if their was an emergency, I regress. Either way a call should have been made to the school reguardless.
The kids have very important learning to do.

CANNOT believe that FOXSportsAZ is going to return to the school?! Obert actually tweeted that the school was waiting for them to return. At least the kids are not leaving class, with D Neal wanting to go to each classroom to apologize for the snafu earlier this morning.

AHHH, that's good!! FoxSportsAZ just denied that they are returning. They've obviously had enough of this mess for one day already. That's the right decision.

Can't help but feel that the Dad, Luke, is the one who caused this. I'm proud of Davonte for standing up to his dad and getting it right. He's also learned a valuable lesson about standing folks (or KIDS!) up on a commitment and if he is able to apologize to them in class, that will show the kids another lesson as well.
