Solomon Hill, A
What a game from Solo! He set a new career high with 23 points and whenever we needed a bucket he was there to provide it. Hill had a double-double with 11 boards to go along with his 23 points. His shooting efficiency was equally impressive as he shot 80 percent from the field and 1 of 2 from three. Solomon also got the line and knocked down 6 of his 7 attempts from the free throw line. Hill added 3 assists and a block as well. Solomon is taking on a bigger leadership role and performance like this will really endear him to his teammates, coaches, and fans.
Kyle Fogg, A-
Kyle stepped up tonight and had a good game. Fogg hit a couple big three-pointers and shot 55% from the field en route to 17 points. Like Solomon, he knocked down his free throws going 5 of 6 from the line. Kyle also played well on the defensive side of the ball which is no surprise. Fogg got 2 steals and brought down 6 boards. He played within himself and also set up teammates with 3 assists.
Jesse Perry, B+
Jesse does the dirty work and his work often goes unnoticed, but he definitely helped Arizona achieve tonight's victory. He was extremely efficient shooting the ball tonight, going 5 of 7 from the field. He was short of average in rebounds, but got 4 rebounds, one being offensive. He played solid D as none of Oakland's forwards or centers did much offensively. Jesse was often at the right place at the right time and was a consistent positive influence the whole game.
Josiah Turner, B
The very talented freshman didn't start tonight but he had a big impact on the game. Turner led the Wildcat's up tempo offense by trying to push the ball whenever he could and for the most part made good decisions with the ball. In particular, he fed an alley-oop pass to Johnson and in double team, he was able to toss the ball to Chol who made an easy point blank dunk. Turner once again showed he is a very exciting player to watch because of his speed and great athleticism.
Brendon Lavender, B
B-Lav played to his strengths and fulfilled his role tonight. Brendon knocked down both of his shots from downtown to get 6 key points of the bench. Lavender also got an important offensive board and played within the team concept during his 9 minutes of play.
Nick Johnson, B-
This was one of those games where nothing seemed to be falling for Bunnies but instead of forcing things, he made his teammates better by leading the team with six assists. While Johnson is a shoot first guard, he has demonstrated recently that if need be, he can also play a point guard role. Bunnies was also one of three players with two steels in the game.
Jordin Mayes, B-
Jordin had some rough moments, notably a couple fast-paced passes that his teammates were unable to handle. However, he did make some nice plays as well including a big 3, an offensive board, and two good steals. Miller would like to see a better assist to turnover ratio as he had 2 assists to 3 turnovers, but he seems to be bouncing back some his disappointing play earlier in the season. His 8 points in 18 minutes of play helped Arizona reach it's high scoring output tonight. Like Turner, Mayes was also able to penetrate the lane when he was on the floor. While the guy he was guarding, Reggie Hamilton, scored 31 points, Mayes still played decent defense on him. Overall, a respectable game from Jordin.
Kevin Parrom, C+
Kevin had a big 3 early in the game to help get the offense flowing. That Parrom's only shot of the night though as he played just 13 minutes. In the second half he missed both of his free throws which can't make Miller happy. Kevin didn't force any shots and played within the team concept as he grabbed 3 boards and got a sweet block. Parrom will start playing more minutes if he plays well like tonight and continues healing from his injury.
Angelo Chol, C+
This was far from Chol's best game but he did do a few good things like get a nice block and both his rebounds were from the offensive end. Offensively, he still has some issues and his lone basket was a dunk following a good pass by Turner. Nonetheless, Chol clearly has potential and he will continue to get better this season.
Kyryl Natyazhko, C-
Kyryl has been struggling this year and tonight was no different. He missed his only shot of the game and had no rebounds. He was able to get a block though. While it's hard to do much in just 6 minutes, unless he shows he can be more productive, he will continue to get little playing time.
Overall Impressions:
Against a very tough team, Arizona played perhaps their best game of the season, led of course by Hill's career high in scoring. The Cats went hard after almost every rebound and loose ball and they ran the floor like the way they've wanted to all season. Arizona also shot the ball a lot better, 55.6% from the field and they got to the line almost twice as many times as Oakland. Overall, this was the type of performance the coaching staff were looking for and now the Cats play a weak Bryant team before starting conference play.
